No matter what the end result of an eventual Avatar: The Last Airbendergame ends up looking like, it will need to thoroughly flesh out and include each kingdom. Following four generations of Avatars in a row is something that the franchise hasn’t done yet, and a game could be the perfect opportunity. For an ATLA game, there could be four updates or seasons that each have their own Avatar and storyline.
For instance, the 2.0 update was just released, which introduced Inazuma and the Electro Archon. These new areas are being introduced slowly through major updates. In this game, the player is tasked with meeting each of the seven archons, who also represent the elements. While it may be a little greedy to want four different Avatars in one game, it could be possible with an Avatar game similar to Genshin Impact.
Character creation is becoming a more fundamental mechanic in games generally, but it would also work here because this would be an entirely new story, and long-time fans of the series will naturally have their favorite kingdom that they would want their Avatar to be from. It could also have an RPG game structure and a skill tree for each of the elements. So once the player creates their Avatar, the narrative could focus on their trying to find these different masters and learn all the elements, so they can become a fully realized Avatar. Each Avatar always has three benders from the other three nations to help them master all the elements. A New Avatar: The Last Airbender Game Should Use All Four KingdomsĪnother way to do this would be to allow players to make their own Avatar and choose which kingdom they’re from. But even once the player learned who the Avatar is, playing the three other characters would still have value, and such a game could be nearly four games in one, letting players experience the powers of each nation. One of the characters would obviously be the Avatar, but it would be interesting for that to remain a mystery at the outset. There could be four characters from each nation that players can choose to play as, and the story of the game could be different for each of them. In Fire Emblem Three Houses, players have to choose a house to play with at the outset, and the game changes depending on which house they choose. Essentially, there are three different ways to play, and an Avatar: The Last Airbender game could do something similar. To start off, an Avatar: The Last Airbender game should have its own story completely separate from previous entries to the franchise, and this is where developers could have a lot fun. Genshin Impact or Fire Emblem Three Houses also have elements that would go very well with an Avatar: The Last Airbender game. The first would, of course, be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, though it's a game that has inspired many other titles in recent years. More specifically, an Avatar: The Last Airbender game needs to properly utilize all four kingdoms.Īt this point there are plenty of titles that an ATLA game could take inspiration from. Because this franchise is so well-loved, whoever develops the game will need to make sure they get the details right. Avatar: The Last Airbenderdesperately needs a new open-world video game, and with the new Netflix adaptation in the works, now is the perfect time to make it.
